Applying to Waratah Institute

Applications for admission into a Waratah Institute program is simple and quick and can be completed online via the Institute’s website apply now. Alternatively, you can apply by completing our Application form on paper. When submitting your application (online or paper), please ensure to also submit your support documents. For details of support documents, refer to How to Apply section on the website.

Yes. You can apply directly by completing the process mentioned above. Alternatively, you can apply through one of our official representatives. The complete list of Waratah Institute’s representatives can be found at find an agent.

Students seeking admission into Waratah Institute programs will need to demonstrate the required academic requirements. The complete list of our entry required for both domestic and international students can be found at here.

If English is not your first language, you will have to demonstrate English proficiency in order to be admitted into Waratah Institute programs. The complete list of accepted English proficiency tests and other information on how to fulfil this criterion can be found here.

Original documents must have been sighted by a representative from an Australian Overseas Diplomatic Mission or Australian Education Office, or a Justice of the Peace, and a copy of document is noted as being certified. Alternately, the original document can be verified by being sighted by the Waratah Institute’s Student Recruitment Officer.

As an international student in Australia, you and your dependents (for example, spouses and children under 18 years old) are required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to have an Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of your study in Australia. This insurance will cover for visits to the doctor, some hospital treatment, ambulance cover and limited pharmaceuticals (medicines).

Offer and Enrolment Process

If you received a Letter of Offer; you need to follow the steps noted in the Letter on how to accept your offer; make the required payments (including the OSHC) and return the acceptance document to our admissions team.

Once you have made the payment and returned the acceptance documents, our admissions team will issue your Confirmation of Enrolment. This document is required for you to start your student visa application.

Yes. Waratah Institute will determine credit from other related qualifications or units successfully completed by the student on a case by case basis. These qualifications or units may have been completed any other registered vocational or higher education provider. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.

Enrolments and Timetabling

Yes. All international students must attend the Orientation Day. This opportunity will allow you to find out more about Waratah Institute and your program, our staff, meet new students as well as where to obtain help and assistance during your studies. It is definitely an important opportunity not to be missed!

During Orientation Day, you will meet with your Program Coordinator and Registrar who will assist with your timetable. This document will inform which classes you will attend, the classroom, your academic and the time of your class.

Students may apply to defer the commencement of study by submitting a request in writing to the Registrar at any time before census date. Waratah Institute will only grant a deferral to overseas students based on compelling or compassionate circumstances. If granted, Waratah Institute will notify the Department of Home Affairs of any changes in the student’s enrolment. The student should also seek advice from the Department of Home Affairs on any potential impacts on his or her student visa. For further details, refer to the Student Refund Policy.

If you wish to discontinue your enrolment in a unit or a program, you need to may apply to withdraw from a program at any time by communicating it in writing to the Registrar. Waratah Institute will only grant a withdrawal from a program to overseas students based on compelling or compassionate circumstances. If the withdrawal is granted, Waratah Institute will notify the Department of Home Affairs of the change in the student’s enrolment on any potential impacts on his or her student visa. Fees and Payments Support

Yes. Waratah Institute offers a range of scholarships for students who can demonstrate high academic merit. Our scholarships can assist students by reducing the cost of their studies and provide recipients with opportunities to enhance their experience while studying their degree of preference.
Scholarship offerings change throughout the year, so please contact us, to enquire about upcoming scholarships if one is not currently available.

You can pay your fees in a variety of ways, including Bank transfer (internet / by teller), Credit card / Debit card/ cards (we don’t accept Amex) with surcharge via eftpos, International Money Transfer (IMT), Bank Cheque, Direct Deposit (physically do it at bank / ATM) and Bank Money Order. Please note we do not accept Bpay, Bitcoin (or other digital currency) and Paypal. Please note we cannot accept cash payments at our premises.

Student & Support Services

You can come to Australia as soon as your visa has been granted. We recommend you arrive at least 2-3 weeks prior the Orientation Day to settle into life in Sydney so that you are prepared to commence your studies from day 1 of classes. If you are planning on staying in short-term accommodation initially and finding suitable long-term accommodation upon arrival, you should give yourself sufficient time to do so.

Sydney offers a range of short- and long-term accommodation options for every preference and budget. You are welcome to find accommodation yourself or contact Waratah Institute’s suggested services.

Australia is generally a very safe place to live and study and consistently ranks among the safest countries in the world. However, it is still important to take care, be aware of the risks to your health and safety, and ways to minimize these risks. This is particularly important for when you first arrive and are adjusting to your new way of life. All international students coming to Australia must apply for a student visa. Information on criteria, eligibility and how to apply can be found at the Department of Home Affairs website.

Students may be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Rights visa under the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485). The duration of the Post-Study Work Rights visa under the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) will depend on the level of qualification achieved. A visa in this stream can be granted from two to four years, depending on the qualification. For more information, visit the Department of Home Affair website.

Learning Resource Center

Our helpful Learning Resource Center team is available to advise and support you regarding all matters relating to accessing and using learning resources, including books, journals, and databases. The Learning Resource Center team are located on Level 5 of the building; and its opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

Student IT Support

During Orientation Day, you will receive information on your student login for Moddle and the Student Portal.

You can look out for the Wi-fi password (and ID) which is posted on the boards on campus. You can also ask our reception staff for further assistance.
